Eden Boys’ honoured at the Star Awards 2025

Representatives from Eden Boys’ School, Birmingham enjoyed a dazzling day in Blackburn for this year’s Star Awards ceremony.

The Star Awards – Star Academies’ national awards programme that celebrates the remarkable achievements of the pupils, staff and governors across its family of schools – took place in Blackburn on Thursday 3 April 2025.

The biennial awards ceremony provides a special opportunity to recognise and praise those across the Star family who excel, inspire and lead by example. This year, following over 500 nominations, the special event marked a great celebration of the countless unsung heroes and high achievers who make an invaluable difference every day.

Pupils, teachers, leaders, governors and colleagues from Star’s central team were joined by members, trustees and generous sponsors to recognise the dedication, passion and excellence that shine brightly throughout the trust. The day also provided the perfect backdrop to showcase some of the exceptional talent within Star schools, as pupils took to the stage with captivating performances that reflected their creativity and commitment. Guests were treated to a spellbinding medley from stage and screen smash hit, Wicked, expertly delivered by Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School’s concert band, a selection of humorous spoken word poetry from The Olive School, Bolton, and a high-energy performance from Star King Solomon Academy Choir featuring incredible vocals and an impressive breakdancing routine!

The event also saw Olympic swimming champion and double gold medallist, Rebecca Adlington OBE, deliver an uplifting and inspiring keynote address before presenting Star’s worthy winners with their awards.

The school celebrated pupil Humzah Malek, who was named among 25 winners of the Inspirational Learner of the Year Award. Sponsored by Lyreco, the award recognises pupils who have overcome difficulties and challenges – demonstrating resilience, an exceptional commitment to their learning, and inspiring those around them with their courage and perseverance.

Eden Boys’ School, Birmingham’s Mr Ravat was one of three finalists chosen for the Education Support Staff Member of the Year Award, which recognises the invaluable work of those who support pupils, teachers, and schools as a whole.

As Business Support and Careers Lead with responsibility for pastoral support, Mr Ravat plays a crucial role in guiding pupils towards successful futures while fostering their personal wellbeing. Providing one-on-one career guidance to every Year 10 pupil, he also organises impactful careers events that connect pupils and parents with local sixth forms and colleges, contributing to strong post-16 destinations. His pastoral leadership has strengthened attendance, with the school regularly securing the highest attendance rates across the trust and country. Mr Ravat also organises external workshops and industry visits, broadening pupils’ aspirations and career readiness.

To round off the day’s celebrations, the school was also presented with a special achievement award in recognition of ranking 4th nationally in the Fairer Schools Index, which reflects pupils’ exceptional academic attainment.
